    My Interpretation of the Exploiter Build

    Ok, so this is what I came up with following the Exploiter build on the DDO forums at:

    I was not sure how far I needed to take UMD, Disable Device, Search, Intimidate, Balance, Jump and Spot to be effective.

    Let me know what you think. I changed the stats a bit to reflect the fact that I will not be using any +3 Tomes.

      I am pretty new to DDO, as such I don't fully understand the need for Intimidation on this build. If I gave up Intimidation, I could possibly keep my pick lock skill up enough to be usefull instead.

          OK here is attempt number two. I dropped intimidate, picked up open lock. I maxed UMD, Open Lock, Disable Device, Search, and all but two spot. Since I will get the jump spell, i only put 10 ranks in Jump. For balance I put the first 4 at lvl 1, and then all 7 points from my monk level.

          Unless someone can tell me why I should keep intimidate, I think I am going with this build:

              whats the point of a really high ac if you cant get things to whack on you? intimidate shouldnt be hard to fit in with an int of 14 and the rangers 6 skill points a level

                Intimidation goes hand in hand with your AC - This is much more usefull than any rogue skills for end game

                  Thanks for all the input. I am going to have to do some more research and decide what I really want this character to be. From what i have read, if you are going to go end game tank, you need to invest some feats and things as well in order to get high enough. I don't see this build ever getting to 70+ intim. It seems you need to really commit to it. The same can probably be said for the rogue skills as well. They would only be usefull for normal and hard most likely, and not elite.

                  Also, i have read several posts stating that OTWF is not really needed. I could replace that feat with Two weapon defense, another toughness, or someing else to help out my tanking.

                    I believe OTWF is a prereq for tempest 3
                    Go ranger at 13 not Monk assuming you want Tempest2 sooner
                    Whether to go Intim or not is going to partially depend on how high you see your AC and/or HP getting.
                    Keep in mind when going Khopesh that acquiring them is generally significantly more expensive and difficult than if you'd use any slashers. Which really isn't an issue if you've been around sinc eday1, but might be a problem if you are relatively new and counting pennies. then again you either have a stack of +2 tomes waiting or plan on buying through the store.

                      Unless he is wanting to tank, and a ranger tanking.. then he isn't doing his max dps... so it would defeat the purpose of being a dps...

                      Having a High AC is to live when you do draw agro... IMHO

                        Exploiters aren't really a max dps build though. They do a many things decently, but not as well in any given role as a character built to excel at that one aspect. A properly geared out exploiter can solo very well (enough ac to not really be hit by anything on normal or most hard settings, can do traps and locks, reasonable dps, etc), and can fill many gaps in a group. At level 20 though they won't have the dps of a monster build, won't have the AC, intimidate, and hps of a fighter or paladin tank build, won't have the trapsmithing abilities of a mechanic rogue (actually needed in some of the epic dungeons, so not useless in the end game any more). They are a great all-around build to play with as you're learning the game, but can be very gear intensive for a starting player (you need bonuses to 4 stats continuously and the other 2 situationaly, gear for all of your thief skills, 2 weapons, etc).

                        What I don't like about them - in combat, you just auto-attack, which I find gets boring after awhile.

                          You are right the last feat is needed for Tempest III, however I have a few choices:
                          Ranger Tempest III
                          Prerequisites: Ranger level 18, Tempest II, and any one of: Two Weapon Blocking, Two Weapon Defense, Oversized Two Weapon Fighting, or Lightning Reflexes.

                          As far as Khopesh goes, I would have them available, however all my enhancements/feats would apply to any slash weapon. However, If I give them up, I would beable to take a different feat. Something to ponder I suppose. Would just a longsword be the alternative?
                          I was told you could get the +2 to all stats in the DDO store, I have not went and looked yet. I am not going to commit to the purchase untill I have this guy fleshed out properly.

                          The more I think about the variations, the more my head spins. Should one of my first chars even be built with end game raiding as it's ultimate goal? Maybe I should just follow the template, and get some experience playing the game, as of late I have spent more time on the char builder than the DDO client :eek:

                            With the addition of lesser reincarnation to the game, don't worry about making him perfect the first time around. Play him up through the levels, and enjoy the dungeons the first time through. By the time you get him up to raiding levels, you can decide if you want to change him around a bit or start a more focused character for your primary.
